Nettie Elizabeth (Willey) Fleischman

June 15, 1918 — July 30, 2017

Nettie Elizabeth Willey Fleischman, 99, passed away on July 30, 2017, after a very brief illness. She was an active lady until she had a minor stroke on June 9th. She recovered and celebrated her 99th birthday at Mallard Bay Care Center and attended her great-granddaughter’s wedding on June 24th. On July 19th, she was readmitted to the hospital where it was discovered she had bone cancer and was readmitted to Mallard Bay on July 25th.

Before her stroke, she still went to breakfast and to lunch with the Hardees’ ladies and Glasgow Street Restaurant lunch bunch. She was a member of the local AARP and enjoyed traveling on their trips.

Born on June 15, 1918, she was the 5th of nine children born to the late Howard T. and Carrie Robbins Willey. She attended local schools. In her early years, she was employed by the Phillips/National Can Company and at Phillips Hardware Gift Shop. Later, she was the jewelry and accessories buyer for Leggett Department Store until the store closed.

She married Robert Emerson “Pete” Fleischman on August 24, 1935 and enjoyed 59 years of happy marriage until he passed away on November 26, 1994. They joined Grace United Methodist Church in 1941 and Mrs. Fleischman received a certificate of 75 years of church membership in 2016. She also had received a silver tray for teaching Sunday School for 45 years.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, her daughter Barbara F. Parks and husband Bob, two grandchildren Mike Parks and wife Shawn, and Susan Parks Stinson and husband Skip, three great grandchildren Morgan Parks Cox and husband Jody, Madison Parks and Jack Stinson, a sister Florence W. Anstine and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Fleischman is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Myrtle Hurley, Evelyn Dean, Wilsie Spedden, Pearl Griffith, Raymond Willey, Sr., Gordy Willey and Calvin Willey.

Pallbearers will be Michael Parks, Skip Stinson, Frank Hurley, Levi Ruark, Robin Hall, and Hubert Trego. Honorary pallbearers will Steve Anstine, Wayne Gray, Raymond Willey, Jr., Wayne Willey, Gary Willey, Bobby Willey, Donnie Spedden and Jimmy Spedden.

The family extends their gratitude of thanks to the Mallard Bay Care Center, 300 Wing staff for their attentive care and love given to them and their loved ones.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Christina Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
