Nolan Rufus Fitzhugh, 67 of Cambridge, Maryland passed away July 3, 2009 at his home at Maple Haven Farm. He was born March 23, 1942 in Cambridge, MD. Nolan was the son of the late Enos and Fannie Insley Fitzhugh.A
Nolan got his start in his working career on Maple Haven Dairy Farm delivering milk to the public's front door at age (12-16). At age 16 he worked as an usher at the Dorset Movie Theater. He was a 1960 graduate of Cambridge High School and after graduating went to serve his Country in the United States Navy from 1960 a�" 1964 on the USS Forrestal. After the Navy he worked retail for JC Penney in Arizona and California, Aaron Brothers Art Marts in California, Fashion Flair in Hagerstown, Kent Island and Queenstown, Evan Picone in Queenstown, Van Heusen in Queenstown, Quality Inn- Shoals in Cambridge and retired from Wal-Mart and Days Inn in Cambridge. He was a member of the Bay Country Church. Some of his hobbies included working in the yard and tending to his fish pond, yard sales, traveling, eating out, dancing, going to listen to the Barren Creek Band, eBay, working in the garden and making flower arrangements. He enjoyed spending as much time with his family and friends as possible and laughing. A He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Darlyn Ann Hoge Dawson Fitzhugh, whom he married on July 25, 1992; 5 children, Quentin Wade Dawson and his wife Reese, Tina Dawson Peterson and companion Paul Wieciech, William David Wyatt Dawson and companion Jade Higgs, Alta Melissa Dawson and companion Ivan Bonneville, and the late Darlyn April Renee' Dawson Ashton; grandchildren, Reece Todd and wife Heather, Logan Parks IV, Billy Peterson, Joshua Peterson, Tommy Ashton III, Carolina Ashton, Sabrina Bonneville, Ivan Bonneville Jr., Brandon Bonneville, Amber Billings, Cerah Jean Dawson. He is also survived by a sister Louise Turner Prahl, a brother John Fitzhugh, brother in law William David Hoge and wife Dottie, brother inlaw Sheldon Schultz and wife Diane, Carolina Dawson whom he considered his second mother and mother in law Ethelyn Aaron, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Venie Bailey and Hazel Foxwell and four brothers, Clarence, James, Omro and Woodrow Fitzhugh; He enjoyed spending time with his pets Angel, Alex, Dutchess, Buffy and Momma cat whom he considered his other children.
Pallbearers will be Paul Wieciech, Ivan Bonneville, Kirk Turner, Keith Turner, Kris Turner and James Loveless.
A A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 1p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, Maryland with Rev. Douglas J. Wooten and Rev. DJ Wooten officiating. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 12-1p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
