Ogle B. “Timmie” Cannon, Jr., 91, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Cambridge on August 19, 1929 and was a son of the late Ogle B. Cannon, Sr. and Magnolia Lankford Cannon.
Mr. Cannon completed High School in Cambridge. After, high school he worked with his father on the water and with Coca Cola Company, before he was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received several medals including the Purple Heart. On September 15, 1950, he married the former Peggy Travers. Mr. Cannon worked with the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1992 with almost 40 years of service, most of those spent as a window clerk assisting the Cambridge Community, always greeting them with a smile. He made the decision to retire from the Post Office to care for his newborn grandson Kyle. As other grandchildren were born, he continued to be an active role model in their lives. He also worked at Simmons Center Market. Mr. Cannon enjoyed playing golf, baseball, collecting coins, but most of all spending time with family. Mr. Cannon was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 75 years, the American Legion Post #91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and the Cambridge Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years Peggy Cannon of Cambridge, two daughters Dianna Travers and husband Wendell of Cambridge and Terri Reed and husband Wally of Easton, grandson Kyle Reed and wife Dani, granddaughter Catherine Neal and husband Eric, four great grandchildren Joey Neal, Megan Neal, Ariel Montgomery, and Brianna Montgomery, a brother Robert H. Cannon of Cambridge, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving a caregiver and niece Barbara Hochreiner, who was with the family during the five weeks of home care. Besides his parents, Mr. Cannon is preceded in death by a sister Ethel Durandetto, three brothers Wallace L. Cannon, Donald B. Cannon and Eldridge W. Cannon, and a granddaughter Jessica Travers-Montgomery.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Reed, Wally Reed, Wendall Travers, David Cannon, Bobby Cannon, Pete Cannon, Ricky Fitzhugh and Calvin Travers.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11 am at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev.’s Jay Hurley, Chris Pettit and Douglas Ridley officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 815, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Face mask and social distancing will be required.
