Ollie H. Wheatley, 92, of Cambridge, went home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in East New Market on February 15, 1923 and was a son of the late Herman and Myrtle Veneables Wheatley.
He attended schools in Hurlock. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On April 5, 1947, he married the former Georgia Belle Slacum. Mr. Wheatley was an employee at Cambridge Wire Cloth for 41 years. He enjoyed gardening, puzzle books and reading. He was a member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church for 74 years and was the custodian at the church for over forty years and was very dedicated to his church.
He is survived by his wife Georgia Belle Wheatley of Cambridge, a son Kenneth Wheatley and wife Michelle of Cambridge, a daughter Debbie Collison and husband Ricky of Cambridge, grandchildren Cherrie Messick and husband Terry, Michael Wheatley, Crystal Yockey and husband Kevin, step grandson Matthew Hastings and Melissa Mooney who was like a granddaughter, great grandchildren Khristopher Messick, Rebekah Yockey, Alexis Yockey and Nichols Tyler, a brother Russell Wheatley and two sisters Gertrude Cattau and Isabelle Mooney and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Wheatley is preceded in death by two brothers Herbie Wheatley and Richard Wheatley and two sisters Eleanor Howell and Virgie Bramble.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Collison, Michael Wheatley, Terry Messick, Kristopher Messick, Kevin Yockey and Mike Rossy. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Cambridge Wesleyan Church with Pastor Jack Diehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21804 or to the Cambridge Wesleyan Church, c/o Mrs. Paulette Meekins, 1108 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
