Mr. Murphy attended schools at Bethany. He was married to the former Dorothy White, who passed away on February 13, 1982. He worked at the Eastern Shore State Hospital in the powerhouse for over 30 years until he retired. After retiring from the State Hospital he worked on the water, and enjoyed going to the race track. Mr. Murphy had been in failing health for the past two years and had been a patient at the Mallard Bay Care Center for one week and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital this morning where he passed away
Survivors include three sisters Amanda Lee Holotik of Crocheron, Becky Bradshaw of Cambridge, and Eloise Abbott and her husband Douglas Abbott of Crocheron, two brothers Conrad Murphy of Cambridge and George L. Murphy and his wife Mary Virginia Murphy of Crocheron, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two close friends Bill and Chris Foxwell. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two sisters Betty Jean Murphy and Bernice Meredith and one brother Otis Murphy
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Joseph Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Murphy's name to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Ricky Bradshaw, Johnny Holotik, Tommy Holotik, Robert Holotik, Douglas Abbott and Vaughn Windsor. Honorary pallbearers will be John White and Matthew Wroten.
