Ottie Washington Mills, Jr., 92, of Madison passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at his home. He was born in Madison on November 30, 1923 and was a son of the late Ottie Washington Mills, Sr. and Nora Letitia Green Mills.
He attended schools in Madison. Mr. Mills served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged at the rank of Sergeant and received the Purple Heart. On August 18, 1945, he married the former Gladys Holliday. He worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth with 45 years of service. Mr. Mills enjoyed gardening, and woodworking. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91 and the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
He is survived by his wife Gladys Mills of Madison, his children Sharie Dean of Cambridge, Daniel Mills and wife Linthia of Madison, Kevin Mills and companion Terry Adams of East New Market, and Christie Mills of Delmar, DE, grandchildren James Dean, Brian Dean, John Dean, Tammie Willis, Jeff Mills, Jr., and Kara Mills Jones, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Mills is preceded in death by a son Jeffrey Mills, a grandson William Mills, a brother William "Harvey" Mills and a sister Hazel L. Mills Cheesman.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 am at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery with Rev. David Wooten officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
