Philip Alan Alschbach, 83, of Cambridge, MD, formerly of Richmond, VA, passed away on August 11, 2015 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Detroit, MI on April 16, 1932 and was the youngest son of the late George R. and Margaret L. Alschbach. Besides his parents, brothers Jack, David, and Robert preceded him in death.
Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years Norma (Nan) A. Alschbach, three daughters M. Carol Cadle of Stevensville, MD; Kathryn A. Van Antwerp of Cambridge, and Linda M. Hanson and husband Ted of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren Cynthia L. Booker and husband Andy of Troutman, NC; Edward P. Cadle of Stevensville, Margaret Grace Hanson and William T. Hanson of Richmond, VA, great-grandson Bentley Alan Booker of Troutman, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Phil joined the Naval Air Reserve during his high school years and later joined the U.S. Air Force serving from 1953-1957. He worked as an executive flight steward for private and corporate aircraft and in that position was able to travel around the world. Besides being a skilled maker of doll houses, small scale train buildings and bird houses, he built and collected model planes, cars and G-scale trains. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge where on occasion he enjoyed helping in the kitchen. Phil was also a proud Mason and Shriner, a past member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge #1272 B. P.O.E. and the American Legion Unit 91.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613 or a charity of choice. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
