Phyllis A. Murphy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis A. Murphy on November 17, 2024, at the age of 89. Phyllis was born on May 2, 1935 in Cambridge, MD.

Preceding Phyllis in joining the Lord: her loving husband of 60 years of marriage, Cecil R. Murphy, mother & father, James & Esther Hurley, and sister Marilyn Luthy.

Survived by: daughters Jennifer (Jim) Perilli and Jessica (Bryan) Hall; son C.R. (Susan) Murphy, Jr.; brother Jim (Sioux) Hurley, sisters Jane Brasure and Joann (Henry) Bourne; 9 grandchildren Amber (Toby) Larmore, Derek (Jessica) Hall, Dillon Hall, Marissa Perilli, Christina Perilli, Kara Perilli, Chase Murphy, Hannah Adkins and Abby (Colby) Payne; 6 great grandchildren Sienna, Arden, Jackson & Brynne Larmore and Eliana and Briggs Hall.

She worked as a high school secretary in Marion, VA for two years when she was first married then worked with her husband, Cecil, for 25 years at Murphy’s Grocery in Cambridge, MD.

She enjoyed teaching High School Aged Sunday School at Immanuel United Church of Christ for years and sang in the choir at Immanuel UCC and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed bowling in a women’s league for many years, was in many Bible studies over the years and was the treasurer of Women’s Aglow in Easton, MD. She enjoyed her walks near the Choptank River.

On Monday, November 25, 2024 the service will be at 12:00 pm at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Cambridge, MD with a viewing 1 hour prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you to make a donation to American Cancer Society @ cancer.org since she was a breast cancer survivor.
