Phyllis graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1966. She had worked for the Dorchester Co. Humane Society for 14 years, and also had worked at Dorchester General Hospital as a nurse's aide. Some years ago she had moved to Georgia where she worked taking care of the elderly. She moved back to Hurlock in 1993 and worked at Wheaton Tubing in Easton and later worked at Black & Decker. For the past two years she had been doing private sitting. For all of her life she had been an animal lover. Phyllis was stricken suddenly at her home on Friday, and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital where she passed away.
Survivors include her sister Sandra Elzey Carpenter and her fiancAC. Terry Ruark of Hurlock, two nephews Skip Carpenter and his fiancAC.e Jamie Paulette of Linkwood and Mike Carpenter of Hurlock, three great nieces Haley Marie Carpenter, Natalie Gayle Carpenter and Trinity Reese Carpenter. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Melinda Lynn Marine.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. David Wooten officiating. Interment will follow at Bucktown Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Marine's name to the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Skip Carpenter, Nick Rust, Blane Draper, Mike Carpenter, Terry Ruark and Jerry Rhue.
