Ray E. Moore, Sr., 87, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Cambridge on April 15, 1925 and was a son of the late Orville and Leota Davenport Moore.
Mr. Moore attended schools in Cambridge. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and served in WWII. Mr. Moore served in the Pacific Theater and served on an escort carrier. He also served at Leyte Gulf as well as Okinawa. On December 23, 1977, he married the former Betty Thomas, who passed away on August 27, 2001. Mr. Moore had worked for DuPont in Seaford. He was a member of Choptank Memorial Post #7460 VFW.
He is survived by two sons Ray E. Moore, Jr. and wife Robin of Cambridge and Mark L. Moore and wife Barbara of Berlin, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother Gary Moore of Mardela, a sister Carol Spicer of Vienna and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Moore is preceded in death by a sister Charlotte Gray and a brother Kenneth Moore.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Choptank Memorial Post #7460 VFW, 115 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
