Reginald W. King, Sr

Reginald W. King, Sr., 74 of Toddville, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Sunday August 2, 2009. He was born at Urbana, MD on December 21, 1934, and was a son of the late William Howard and Bessie Love Geisbert King.

Mr. King attended schools in Gaithersburg and graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1952. On December 31, 1952 he enlisted in the US Army. While in the Army he had served in Korea in the Signal Corps and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. On August 30, 1956 he was married to the former Evelyn Smith. After they were married they made their home in Damascus. Some years ago he had been active in the Montgomery Co. Fair, and had helped build several of the buildings there. For a number of years he was self employed as a mechanic and operated a Shell Service Station. Mr. King had retired in the early 1980's. They have made their home in Toddville since 2003. He was a member of the Lakes & Straits Vol. Fire Co. Mr. King loved car racing, hot rod tractors, and built radio control airplanes and built model boats. Mr. King had been in failing health for the past month and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since last Tuesday where he passed away on Sunday morning.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn V. King of Toddville, three daughters Sandy Johnson and her husband Donn Johnson of Myersville, MD, Jo Dyke and her husband Jim Dyke of Grovetown, GA, Susan V. Bridges and her husband Bob Bridges of Lakeland, FL, two sons Reginald W. King, Jr. and his wife Marlene King of Arcadia, FL and Howard J. King and his wife Denise King of Ft Meyers, FL, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters Ruth Swaney of Ft. Meyers, FL and Sarah King of South Carolina, three brothers Lee King of Woodfield, MD, Roger King of Hagerstown, MD and Walter King of Greenville, SC and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Jo King and William King.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at Zion United Methodist Church at Toddville with the Rev. Barbara Mills officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Donnie Simmons, Dave Tippett, Duane Paul, William "Snooks" Windsor, Tommy Clark, Gibby Robinson, Gibby Robinson, JR. and Jim Wagner.
