Richard N. "Skip" Hurley

June 14, 1934 — April 16, 2012

Richard N. "Skip" Hurley, 77, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on June 14, 1934 and was the son of the late John Sewell Hurley and Evelyn Cora Dennis Hurley.

He attended schools in Dorchester County. On May 27, 1966, he married the former Wanda Valliant. He worked as a Long Shoreman in Cambridge and he also was owner/operator of Skip's Place and later he was a bar tender at Choptank Tavern. He enjoyed fishing and umpiring.

He is survived by his wife Wanda V. Hurley of Cambridge, two sons Richard Dennis Hurley of Cambridge and Robert Kevin Hurley of Delaware, a step daughter Patsy Gambrill of Linkwood, two grandchildren Richard Brandon Gambrill and wife Robin and Jennifer Hurley, two great granddaughters Sierra Gambrill and Shyanne Gambrill, a brother William Hurley and wife Juanita of Chestertown, a sister Ilene Wolf and husband John of Annapolis , brother Russell Hurley and wife Florence of California and his dog, Rusty and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge with Rev. Thomas Hurley officiating. Family will receive friends from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
