Richard "Dickie" M. Gatton

Richard “Dickie” M. Gatton, 66, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017    at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on November 22, 1950 and was a son of the late Elmer Spies and Mary McClain Spies.

Dickie graduated from Cambridge High School. He served in the Army National Guard for 12 years. Dickie had worked at the Eastern Shore State Hospital, Mallard Bay, Interstate Corrpack, Ace Hardware, and Seawatch in Easton. He enjoyed country music, listening to Elvis Presley, fishing, hunting, and going to the flea market.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Gatton of Cambridge, two daughters Ashley Gatton (Adam King) of Cambridge, and Jessica Sheeler, two sons Josh Gatton of Cambridge, Richard Gatton, Jr. of Delmar, a stepson Michael Hooper (Jessica Christopher) of Trappe, four grandchildren, three sisters Mary Jackson, Doris Spies, and Cheryl Engle, a brother Elmer Spies, an uncle Howard, two special nieces Dot and Shirley, and several nieces and nephews. Dickie is also survived by several close friends Donna Barnes, Betty Travers, Kathy Mowbray (Matt Hubbard), Bunky Collins (Patricia Collins), John Gray, Tammy Gray, Laura Laird (Cookie), Curtis Corneal, Wayne Corneal, and Billy Gray. Mr. Gatton is preceded in death by an uncle Tommy.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hooper, William Vazquez, Jason Robinson, Kelly Spies, Richard Gatton, Jr., Jimmy Hooper and Art Fanton. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Mowbray.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Abraham Lankford officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
