Robert L. Hanlin

Robert L. "Bob" Hanlin, 80 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Saturday July 11, 2009. He was born in Mt. Storm, West Virginia on October 17, 1928, and was a son of the late Walter B. and Velma Iamon Hanlin.

Mr. Hanlin attended schools in West Virginia. He served in the 1st Marine Corps Division from 1951 until 1953. He served in a 105 field artillery firing battery in Korea. On December 16, 1972 he was married to the former Eleanor Lilburn. Mr. Hanlin worked as a carpenter for most of his life and had worked at the Census Bureau as well as the Pentagon as a carpenter as well as the Watergate. They have made their home in Cambridge since 1990. He enjoyed woodworking and making curio cabinets, gun cabinets and furniture, and also enjoyed deer hunting. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, American Legion in Laurel, MD and VFW in Mt. Storm, West Virginia. He had been a patient at Chesapeake Woods Center since June of 2007 where he passed away on Saturday evening.

Survivors include his wife Eleanor L. Hanlin of Cambridge, two daughters Gloria Jean Keith of Savage, MD and Beverly Dawn Fanelli of Germantown, MD, three grandchildren one brother Donald M. Hanlin of Mt Storm, West Virginia and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Marcella Lancaster and Norma Kitzmiller and one brother Russell Hanlin.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at Zion United Methodist Church on Locust Street in Cambridge with the Rev. William Davis officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Storm Cemetery in Mt. Storm, West Virginia. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hanlin's name to the Alzheimers Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 209C Milford St., Salisbury, MD 21804or to the Endowment Fund of Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
