Robert T. Hayes, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Chicago on March 1, 1926 and was a son of the late Maurice J. Hayes and Ursula C. Booker Hayes Kline.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was discharged on December 28, 1945. On June 1, 1948, he married the former E. Marie Crosby who passed away on November 12, 2010. He retired from John R. Crocker Company as a master plumber and worked as a carpenter, boat builder and waterman. He enjoyed boating. Mr. Hayes was a life member and a past Commander of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
He is survived by his children Robert M. Hayes and wife Clara of Millersville, MD, Catherine “Kay” Warfield of Cambridge, William R. Hayes, Sr., and wife Anita of Chestertown, Theresa Hayes Wanex and husband Jason of Cambridge, seven grandchildren Stephen Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, Crystal Warfield, Joey Warfield, Philip Hayes, Kenneth B. Abbott and Aubrie Wanex, seven great grandchildren Hunter Bradshaw, Callie Bradshaw, Averi Warfield, Nathan Warfield, Caiden Hayes, Greyson Hayes and Maddison Hayes and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters and a grandson William R. Hayes, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy T. Hayes, Stephen M. Hayes, Philip Hayes, Edward Hayes, Kenneth B. Abbott, Joey Warfield, Hunter Bradshaw and Chris Thornton.
Family will receive friends from 11 to 12 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Cambridge followed by a graveside service at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery at 1 p.m.
