Robert D. "Bobby" Kinnamon, 72 of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday March 28, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was born in Cambridge on January 12, 1938, and was a son of the late Brice G. and Carolyn Layton Kinnamon.
Bobby attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School 1957. While he was in high school he was quite active in sports and excelled in baseball, basketball, softball and football. On December 30, 1961 he was married to the former Geraldine Harrington. He had served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and had served in Germany. Bobby had served on the Cambridge Police Department, Montgomery County Police Force and also on the St. Michaels Police Department. For a number of years he had worked at the Dorchester Co. Recreation & Parks. He later worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for a number of years until he retired several years ago. Bobby started doing color commentary for Ed Brigham at WCEM and more recently he had worked as a sports announcer for MTS Broadcasting and broadcast Little League Baseball, Cambridge South Dorchester Vikings Football as well as broadcasting for numerous other sports teams. Bobby also had his own radio show "Time Out With The Coach" and had worked with the Oriole's, Ravens and various other sports teams. He was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion. He and his wife loved to travel and had visited 48 states and was a lifelong New York Yankee fan. He also enjoyed reading about history, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to Navy games with his sister and family. Bobby also enjoyed going on day trips and breakfast with his high school buddies once a month. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had been in failing health for the past six weeks when he passed away on Sunday afternoon.
Survivors include his wife Geraldine Kinnamon of Cambridge, one son Brett Gerald Kinnamon of Cambridge, one daughter Kelly Dee Elzey of Cambridge, seven grandchildren Brandon Robert McMullen, Brooke Lynn Kinnamon, Kirby DeAnna Kinnamon, Brittaney Nicole Sard-Kinnamon, John Edward James, III, Braydin Michael Kinnamon, Nayloni Rose Kinnamon, two great grandchildren DeAnna Noel Kinnamon and Mark Wayne Pritchett III, one sister Christine Kinnamon Carter and husband Russell of Cape May, NJ, several nieces and nephews, two sisters in law Meg Kinnamon of Cambridge and Linda Hubbard of East New Market. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Phyllis E. Kinnamon and Constance "Connie" Bramble, one brother Brice G. Kinnamon, Jr. and two brothers in law Irvin Bramble and Oliver Hubbard.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Cambridge Little League, P.O. Box 1275, Cambridge, MD 21613.Pallbearers will be Brett Kinnamon, Brandon McMullen, John E. James III, Russell Carter, Mark Burton, Shan Shariff, Brice G. Kinnamon, III, Bobby Kinnamon and John Harris. Honorary bearers will be Wayne Bromwell, Kenneth R. Thomas, Jr., David Bromwell, Hubert C. Trego, Davis Elliott, M. Hollie Smith and Jimmy Jones.
