Robert E. Parker, 90, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at his home. He was born in Golden Hill on May 29, 1925 to the late John M. and Hilda Ruark Parker.

Mr. Parker attended schools in Golden Hill. He joined the United States Navy in 1942. While in the Navy he went on tour in the Pacific in a Landing Craft, during his second tour in the Pacific he was located on the Sea Going Tug Boat. Robert was honorably discharged from the Navy as a 3rd class Petty Officer in January of 1946. While on active duty he received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He met his companion Beatrice McCarter in 1984. Robert enjoyed watching the Orioles, he loved the local seafood and produce, especially the home grown tomatoes and loved to spend time and share a good meal with Beatrice and his family and friends. Mr. Parker was a very independent man, who worked hard to provide for his family and stayed active until the end of his life.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW 7460, the Cambridge Moose Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 91.

Robert is survived by his companion of thirty-two years Beatrice McCarter of Cambridge, his daughter Brenda Johnson of Linkwood, a granddaughter Tammy Harvey of Cambridge, a great grandson Bryan Harvey of Cambridge, his companions daughter Jan Heckler and husband Mark of Cambridge, his companions grandchildren Emily Ruark and husband Aaron of East New Market and Ryan Heckler and wife Jennifer of Cambridge.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Harvey, Aaron Ruark, Vance Todd, Mark Heckler, Ryan Heckler and Robert Tieder.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cambridge VFW 7460, 115 Sandy Hill Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 91, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613
