Robert B. "Boob" Wilson, 94, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born in Cambridge on August 18, 1917 and was a son of the late Robert and Katherine Bell Wilson.
He graduated from Cambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. On May 30, 1942 he married the former Frances Nabb. He first started working with his brother Woodrow at Wilson Construction. He later operated his own business R.B. Wilson Builders. After leaving the construction business, Mr. Wilson was a tax assessor for Dorchester County. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking. He was a member Grace United Methodist Church, life member of the Cambridge Elks, American Legion Post 91 and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. Mr. Wilson was also a Past Commodore of the Cambridge Yacht Club, a member of the 29th Infantry Division and was an exempted member of the Rescue Fire Company.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Frances N. Wilson of Cambridge, three grandchildren Kathryn Willey and husband John of Hurlock, Bobbi Atkinson of Cambridge and James H. Mitchell of Cambridge, four great grandchildren Michael Willey, Bryan Willey, Aaron Atkinson and Brittney Atkinson, a brother Elliott Wilson of Linkwood and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Wilson is preceded in death by a son J. Robert Wilson, a daughter Katherine Schuyler, two brothers Woodrow Wilson and James R. Thomas and two sisters Agnes Delaha and Eunice Hall.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Wilson, Robert Condon, Carlton Nabb, Michael Willey, Bryan Willey and Aaron Atkinson.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O.
