Roy E. Elzey, 68 of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on January 6, 1941 and was a son of the late Austin Arthur Oscar Elzey and Rose Gray Elzey.
He graduated from Cambridge High School Class of 1959. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. On June 29, 1974 he married the former Gloria Holland. He worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth for 35 years and worked at Western Auto part time. He enjoyed stock cars, basketball, camping and horseshoes. He was a member of the Cambridge Classic Cruisers.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Gloria Holland Elzey of Cambridge, a son Roy Edward Elzey, Jr. and wife Melissa of Federalsburg, two daughters Amy Joe Elzey of Preston and Tina Louise Elzey of Cambridge, step children Mike Allen Quidas and wife Monica of Preston, Dorothy Callahan and husband Keith of Hurlock and Renee Lausen of Hurlock, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a brother Levin Matthew Elzey of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by 4 sisters and 7 brothers.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Asplen, Willey Turner, Robert Lowe, Bill Foxwell, Otis Elzey and Charles Schuyler. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Cannon and Jim Moore.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. David Talley and Rev. Charlie Green officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
