Russell E. Phillips, Sr

Russell E. Phillips, Sr., 85, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home. He was born in Cambridge on July 20, 1928 and was the son of the late Russell and Mildred Mowbray Phillips.

He attended schools in Dorchester County. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1947 to 1951. On October 15, 1949, he married the former Frances Burton. Mr. Phillips was employed and retired from Western Publishing. Prior to Western Publishing, he was a truck driver for Pritchett's Transport. He enjoyed traveling, watching the Cambridge boat races, and traveled with Sid and Skeeter Johnson to other boat races. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, a past member of the American Legion Post #91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW and the Cambridge Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Frances Phillips of Cambridge, four sons Jay Phillips ( Sharon) of Cambridge and James "Ronnie" Phillips (Susan) of Cambridge, Terry Phillips (Cathy) of Cambridge, Russell "Rusty" Phillips (Sherri) of East New Market, 12 grandchildren Bruce, Barbie, Brenda, Bridget, Bart, Ben, Linda, Kate, Susan, Ali, Chris and Josh.

A memorial service will held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Steve Trice officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
