Ruth M. Smith

Ruth Mace Smith, 88 of Seminole, Florida, formerly of Cambridge, passed away at the Suncoast Hospice Woodside in Pinellas Park, Fl on Sunday, March 27, 2011. She was born in Cambridge on January 28, 1923, and was a daughter of the late William G. and Artelia Lawson Foxwell.

She attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940. On January 21, 1944 she was married to Spencer T. Smith. Mr. Smith passed away on December 24, 1994. Mrs. Smith had worked as a bookkeeper at the Cambridge Maryland Hospital for 15 years and later worked at Dashiell Realtors as well as the State of MD Department of Assessments and Taxation until she retired in January of 1988. Mrs. Smith had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge, the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary and was also a member of AARP. She had made her home in Florida for the past three years.

Survivors include two cousins Peggy Thomas of Cambridge and Isabelle Hurley of Seaford, one niece Brenda Hurley of Cambridge, one nephew Kenneth L. Smith of Cambridge and two brothers in law Kenneth E. Smith of Cambridge and M. Hollie Smith and his wife Elaine of East New Market, special friends Mary Jackson of Seminole, Florida and Randall and Ruthann Bradshaw of Cambridge. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister Virginia B. Messick.

A funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Suncoast Hospice Woodside, 6770 102nd Avenue North, Pinellas Park, FL 33782, or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.
