Sheldon W. Windsor, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 11, 1923 at Buckneck Farm in Bucktown and was a son of the late James T. Windsor, Sr. and Irene Willey Windsor.
He attended school in Dorchester County. On January 24, 1944, he married the former Dorothy Lee Short, who passed away on October 31, 2014. He dedicated his life being a farmer and being dedicated to his family. Sheldon was the longest surviving member of the Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company, where he was a founding member, a member of Friendship Church, Chateau Community Church, and a past member of the Farm Bureau. He participated in a political protest in support of farmers by driving his tractor from Cambridge to Washington, DC with a group of other farmers. The family would like to thank Coastal Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Mr. Windsor and especially Tammy Shufelt.
He is survived by six children Karen Taylor and husband George of Cambridge, Ann Gerhardt of St. Michaels, Brenda Yeatman of Cambridge, Shelley Johnson and husband Raymond of Cambridge, Winfield Windsor of Cambridge and Cheryl Windsor May of Cambridge, daughter in law Frances Windsor, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, a brother Fred Windsor of Cambridge, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Windsor is preceded in death by a son Kelly L. Windsor, great grandson James Clark Palmatary, and two brothers William Windsor, James Windsor, Jr., a sister Marjorie Creighton, three son in laws Howard Yeatman, Edgar May and Ralph Gerhardt.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons Sam Taylor, Jason Yeatman, John Taylor, Ashley Windsor, Curtis "Bear" Windsor, a great grandson Tommy Barnett and Rick Toadvine. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
