Shirley M. Aveson

Shirley M. Aveson, 88, of Easton passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her home. She was born in Souderton, PA on March 23, 1923 and was a daughter of the late William and Ada Snyder Freed.

Mrs. Aveson graduated from Springfield High School. She worked for Bell Telephone Company as a secretary and later was a homemaker. She was married to Thomas S. Aveson, Jr. He passed away on March 22, 1979. Mrs. Aveson enjoyed reading, especially Christian Fiction Books, music, knitting, gardening, traveling and shopping. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the prayer chain and the prayer shawl ministry.

She is survived by two daughters Gail Aveson of Easton and Dorinne Dawes and husband Mike of Spring Hill, FL, two sisters Janet Cisewski and husband Chick of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Nancy Polis and husband James of Hatboro, PA, a brother Robert Freed and wife Carolyn of Palmerton, PA and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Aveson is preceded in death by a brother William Freed, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peach Blossom Road in Easton with Rev's. Gary L. Moore, Darlene Dixon and Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peach Blossom Road, Easton, MD 21601 or to the Jubilee Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
