Shirley N. Long, 76, of Camden, DE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Cambridge, Maryland on July 27th, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Hammond and Jeanette Mills Shannahan.
Mrs. Long attended schools in Cambridge, Maryland. On July 21st, 1962, she married Clark E. Long, who passed away on November 8th,1997. She enjoyed shopping, volunteering at Kent General Hospital and the Delaware USO in Dover, Delaware. Mrs. Long was a member of the USO for fifteen years and in that time served 6,500 hours to service members, the fallen, and their families. She was also a past member of the Cambridge Jaycees. Mrs. Long will be remembered most for her love, dedication, and loyalty to her family, friends, and her cat Molly.
She is survived by a sister Diane Palamaras and husband Archie of Cambridge, nephews, Frankie Barnes, Mark Hurlock, Shane Palamaras, Shannon Palamaras and son Daniel Palamaras, Kevin Barnes and wife Lauren Barnes, David Barnes and son David Barnes Jr. , nieces, Ariah Matos, Terri Palamaras and daughters Taylor and Kaley Palamaras, and cousins Bonnie Sullivan, Debbie Vincent and husband Rolland. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Long is preceded in death by a sister Kaye Barnes.
Pallbearers will be family members.
At her request all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to USO Delaware, 500 Purple Heart Way Dover, DE 19902. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. 700 Locust Street Cambridge, Maryland 21613.
