Shirley Jean (Simmons) Niblett

Shirley Jean Simmons Niblett, 81, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at UMSMC at Dorchester. She was born in Vienna on May 28, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Harold Franklin Simmons, Sr. and Flossie Jones Hughes Simmons.

She attended schools in Vienna, Salisbury and Cambridge. On December 12, 1951, she married Levin Willis Niblett, Sr. Mrs. Niblett worked at Rob Roy for 34 years, then CATO and Cambridge Canvas and Sail Loft. She started and owned her own craft business, Shirley’s Novelties, in 1991 with her husband. She enjoyed sewing, and her grand and great grandchildren. Mrs. Niblett was a member of the Garment Union, AARP, and Salvation Army.

She is survived by her husband of almost 65 years Levin W. Niblett, Sr., three children Levin Willis “Pete” Niblett, Jr. and wife Sandy, L. Susan Phillips and husband Jim, and Brenda J. Jarrett and husband Glen, four grandchildren Jamie Niblett and wife Stella, Shelly Niehaus and husband Billy, Ben Saulsbury and Linda Dayton, six great grandchildren Mason Niblett, Bethany Niehaus, Joey Niehaus, Cierra Thompson, Jacob Dayton, and Amber Dayton, a sister Joyce Newcomb and husband Joey, two sisters in law June Elzey and Kitty Travers and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Niblett is preceded in death by a infant son James Franklin Niblett, a grandson Neal Patrick Niblett, a brother Harold Franklin Simmons, Jr., an infant sister and two infant brothers.

Pallbearers will be Edgar Wingate, Jr., Glen Jarrett, Jim Phillips, Tommy Niblett, Jacob Dayton and Ricky Wingate.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11 am at the Salvation Army with Col. William Crabson officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 91, Cambridge, MD 21613.
