Shirley R. Jones Smith

Shirley R. (Jones) Smith, 85, of New Castle, DE passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. She was born in Christ Rock, MD on July 18, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Walter and Nettie Mae Warfield Jones.

Ms. Smith graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1953 and graduated from Goldey Beacom College. She retired as a secretary to the medical director at the Delaware State Hospital.

She is survived by a son James H. Smith, Jr. and wife Catherine of Wilmington, DE, a daughter Laura Smith Pauls of New Castle, DE, three grandchildren Matthew James Smith, Mark Daniel Smith and Laura Elizabeth Pauls and a foster child Christopher Ross Hatfield, two sisters in law and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ms. Smith is preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 1 pm at Dorchester Memorial Park with her nephew Rev. George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Face mask and social distancing is required.
