Solomon Irvin Rippons, 93, of Fishing Creek passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Hoopersville on March 27, 1921 and was a son of the late Benjamin and Lessie Brannock Rippons.
He attended schools in Hoopersville. On September 27, 1941, he married the former Isabele Tall. Mr. Rippons served in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the South Pacific. He received the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 3 stars, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He worked on the water and started Rippons and Tolley Seafood. Mr. Rippons enjoyed fishing, making picnic tables, making folk art decoys, enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and playing rummy. He was a member of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company, American Legion Post 91and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
He is survived by his wife Isabele Rippons of Fishing Creek, three children B. Irvin Rippons and wife Judy of Ocean City, Shirley Anne Simmons and husband James of Church Creek, Nancy Powley and husband Larry of Fishing Creek, eight grandchildren Tammy Doring and husband Dr. Kevin Doring, Jill Hartwell and husband Sean, Stacey Todd and husband Phillip, Steven Simmons and wife Edyta, Bradley Simmons and wife Pamela, Amanda Guzman and husband Zachary, Aaron Powley and Amy Powley, great grandchildren Rachel Doring, Caroline Doring, Ben Hartwell, Kate Hartwell, Ashley Blake, Cortney Wright, Alexis Todd, Lillie Simmons, Henry Solomon Guzman, great great grandchildren Gabby Blake, Summer Alexandria and Sophie Blake, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Rippons is preceded in death by a daughter Martina Rippons, four brothers and three sisters Eugene Rippons, Chandus Rippons, Joe Rippons, Willard Rippons, Gertrude Rippons, Marguerite Rippons and Nellie Rippons.
Pallbearers will be John Johnson, Steven Simmons, Bradley Simmons, Burt Rippons, Aaron Powley and Brandon Harman.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Marion Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
