John Stephen Applegarth
John Stephen Applegarth, 62, passed away at his Cambridge, MD home on Sunday, August 16, 2015.
He was the son of Regina Orem Kintner and the late John Cecil
Applegarth.
Stephen was born in Cambridge, MD, on May 21, 1953.
He graduated from Hempfield High School, Landisville, PA in 1971
and soon dedicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Immediately after High School, Stephen became employed by Donnelley Printing Company, Lancaster, PA, as a journeyman electrician. He excelled within the company and was sent to school to become a Computer Technician.
Stephen was very dedicated to his job and offered many ideas that enabled the company to save money and provide a safer workplace. For these, he received much recognition and many awards.
Donnelley regularly sent him throughout the U.S. to repair computers within their sister plants and to receive more computer education as newer technology demanded.
He retired from Donnelley in 2004.
Stephen enjoyed repairing electronics (an income-generating hobby he began years before retirement), and after retirement, he became self-employed under the name ComputerTek where he specifically concentrated his technological skills on repairing and building computers. He also gave computer instruction to people of all ages.
In 2008, He moved near his home town of Cambridge, MD to Woolford, and here he continued his Computer Repair/Teaching Business until his health began to fail. He was still able to volunteer his computer operating services to teach students residing at Morningstar Youth Academy, Madison, MD.
Stephen is survived by his mother, Regina Orem Kintner, Baltimore, MD (husband, Floyd J. Kintner, Jr.), sisters, Helen Lisbeth (Betsy) Shatto (husband, Dennis), Harrisburg, PA, Jean Suzanne Applegarth, Woolford, MD, and Mary Claire Kintner, Baltimore, MD and brothers, Eric Travers Orem Applegarth (wife, Michelle), Claiborne, MD, and Christopher Louis Applegarth, Sr. (wife, Amy), Madison, MD.
He is also survived by his three sons (OF WHOM HE WAS VERY PROUD!). They are Bryan Josiah Applegarth, Cambridge, MD, Shawn Michael Applegarth (wife, Keysi), Mount Joy, PA, Matthew Philip Applegarth, Lancaster, PA, a grandson, Dominic Domingo Applegarth (born Dec. 2014 to Shawn and Keysi Applegarth), two nieces, seven nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was formerly married to Kathryn Lehman Applegarth.
Stephen loved visiting Ocean City, MD, especially to hear the live-music bands. He cherished his times on the Chesapeake Bay, boating, camping, fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, a hobby where he bought and sold at Coin/Stamp Shows and flea markets.
Stephen showed great courage as he battled a crippling illness for most of his life that affected his bones and joints.
Holidays and gatherings were very special to him and he was dearly loved by his family and friends. Truly we will sadly miss his wonderful zest for life.
Family and friends are welcome to gather to honor the life of John Stephen Applegarth at an informal Memorial Service to be announced at a later date.
