T. Franklin Collins, Sr

T. Franklin Collins, Sr. 89, of Cambridge passed away Sunday August 8, 2010 at William Hill Retirement Community in Easton where he had resided for the past 4 years. Mr. Collins was born on August 9, 1920 in Cambridge and was a son of the late Alfred H. and Ada Phillips Collins.

After graduating from Cambridge High School Class of 1937 he attended the University of Maryland. He returned to Cambridge to join his father in operating Collins Drug Store. He and his wife continued to operate the business until it was purchased by Edgehill Pharmacy in 1964. He married the former Ann Chaffinch Nevius of Trappe, MD. They celebrated 57 years together until her passing on January 14, 1995. Mr. Collins was a past member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge 1272 and the Rescue Fire Company. He and his wife were actively involved in the Cambridge Little League organization. For many years he enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Mr. Collins is survived by two sons Thomas F. Collins Jr. (Fran) of Cambridge and W. Randolph Collins Sr. (Jeri) of N. Ft. Myers, FL., six grandchildren Kent Collins Jr. (June), Stephanie Simmons (John), Andrea Kelly, Lenee Creighton (Jason), Erin Harley (Peter), and W. Randolph Collins Jr., four great-grandchildren Courtney Collins, Jonathan Kelly, Abigail Kelly, and Eloise Harley and his former daughter-in-law Sharon Dean. He also leaves behind his special friend and traveling companion Marie Roe. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother Randolph P. Collins and son Kent N. Collins Sr.

A graveside service will be conducted on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM at Old Trinity Churchyard, Church Creek, MD by the Rev. Walter Reuschling. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Collins memory to the Richardson Maritime Museum, P.O. Box 1198, Cambridge, MD 21613 of which he was a life member. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
