Calvin attended schools at Sewards. During WW II he served in the US Navy and was stationed in the Pacific when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was married to Mina Robbins in April of 1942. She passed away on September 25, 1985. Calvin took great pride in hand building a train garden which was displayed in the family front yard at Christmas time for many years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Past Master of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F & A.M., member of Chesapeake Forest 115 Tall Cedars, honorary member of Rescue Fire Co., Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW, Dorchester Post #91 American Legion, Past Patron of Minerva Chapter # 50 Order of the Eastern Star and AARP. Calvin worked at the A&P Store in Cambridge as dairy manager for 31 A½ years. He later worked as a caretaker for Mr. Clarence Pink and had also worked at the Cambridge Airport. Calvin has made his home in Salisbury since 1998. He had been in failing health since April and had been a patient at PRMC for the past week when he passed away early Sunday morning.
Survivors include a daughter Carol Ann Rossy Harrington and her husband Wayne L. Harrington of Salisbury, one grandson Trevor W. Harrington of Salisbury, one granddaughter Madeline E. Harrington of Salisbury, one sister Peggy Outten of Salisbury and several nieces, nephews and four sisters in law. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers Johnnie Rossy and Brady Rossy and a sister in law Crenia Robbins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Maryland Avenue in Cambridge with the Rev. Fred Bahr, the Rev. Dale L. Brown and the Rev. Jim Penuel officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 8:00 PM. The family will also receive friends during the hour preceding the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Bounds United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. JoAnn Rumbley, 5503 Mallard Lane, Cambridge, MD 21613. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Harrington, Trevor W. Harrington, Ted Peders, Clark Elzey, Frank Pohl, Phil McKelvey and Rick Rossy. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Aaron, Jack Rossy, Bill Rumbley, Charles Lednum III, Larry Fritz, Joe Juric, Michael Murphree and Jerry Murphree.
