Terry Lloyd Tubman, born April 29, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia to Granville and Margaret “Peggy” Tubman, passed away on August 6, 2024.
A bright and ambitious young man, Terry attended Randolph Macon Academy, before returning to the shore and graduating from Cambridge High School. After completing his education, he began his career at DuPont.
He apprenticed under his father at The Jewel Box in Dover where he honed his eye for quality and exceptional craftsmanship. This experience inspired him to open the Bay Country Shop in Trappe in 1970, followed by another store in Cambridge. His entrepreneurial spirit culminated in his current venture, Bay Country Antiques, located in Pete Robbins’ storage facility on Dorchester Avenue in Cambridge. Pete Robbins was not only a business associate but also a lifelong friend with whom Terry enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Terry was an avid traveler, with fond memories of visits to New York, Quebec, Canada, and Longboat Key, Florida. He was a member of the local Country Club at one point as well as the Cambridge Yacht Club. He joyed spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren, Alyssa and Brayden, teaching them to treasure life on the Eastern Shore.
He loved being on the water, both locally and over the past 40 years during his travels to Quebec to watch the Valleyfield regatta. Fishing was another passion, especially flounder fishing with his dear friend Bobby Shenton. He cherished the time spent on the Chesapeake Lady with his friend Butch Sweet.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Farrah. He is survived by his loving daughters, Wendy Collins and Melissa Fox-Tubman, along with Melissa’s children Alyssa and Brayden. He also leaves behind his sister Susan Tubman Blake, her husband Richard, and his nieces Marybeth Blake and Christy Blake. His faithful companion, his chocolate lab CoCo.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, adventure, and entrepreneurial spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Mr. Tubman donated his body for medical research. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 3-5 PM at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions can be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
