Thomas D. Phillips, 94, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Hoopers Island on August 26, 1919 and was a son of the late Elbert D. and Velma Brannock Phillips
He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1936. On August 23, 1941, he was married to the former Lula May Hurley. During WW II he served in the US Army and served in England and France. As a young man he was a member of the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corps. He and his brother had owned and operated Home Beautiful from the early 1950's until he retired in 1981.He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge, and was also a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW. He enjoyed being involved in community.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Lula May Phillips of Cambridge, two daughters Gail N. Todd and her husband Richard of Cambridge, and Connie E. Pardoe and her husband Sam of Cordova, four grandchildren Ricky Todd, Randy Todd, Mark Palamaras, Jr., and Lisa Pardoe Maki, two great grandchildren Amanda Y. Todd and Nickco Palamaras, two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a half sister Joyce Park of Colorado and a half brother James Phillips of Florida and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin R. Phillips.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to the Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
