Thurman Lawrence “Larry” Jones, 77, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie. He was born in Cambridge on June 18, 1946 and was a son of the late Thurman A. Jones and Vera Jane Aikenhead Jones.
Mr. Jones attended schools on Taylors Island (a one room schoolhouse) and Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1964 where he enjoyed attending a monthly gathering with his classmates for the last several years. He also graduated from the University of Baltimore in 1971 with a Bachelor's degree in Business. On February 19, 1971, he married the former Donna Dail. Mr. Jones worked with Sparrows Point Shipyard, Preston Trucking, the Dorchester County Roads Board and later with the Maryland State Highway Administration. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baking, playing bingo, gardening and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Jones also looked forward to breakfast with some of his former co-workers each month. He was a member of the 4H Club, Dorchester County Historical Society, Grand National Waterfowl, the Cambridge Moose and with several Dove Clubs.
He is survived by his wife Donna Jones of Cambridge, his children Duane Dodson and wife Stacie of Bishopville, Charles Jones of Vienna, Tricia Jones Blake of Bucktown, five grandchildren Kelsey Jones, Karlie Jones, Danielle Dodson, Devin Dodson and Maggie Blake, three great grandchildren Jaxtyn Cornish, Jade Moore and Lincoln Cornish, three siblings Michael Jones and wife Gail of East New Market, Mary Nabb and husband Carlton of Cambridge and Lisa Hare and husband Michael of East New Market and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Jones is preceded in death by a sister Gerry Wanex.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 917 Hoopers Island Road, Church Creek, MD 21622. Interment will follow at Old Trinity Churchyard. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Historical Society, 1003 Greenway Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.
