Vernon Allen Barnes passed away in his home on March 30. He was born in Cambridge, MD to Vernon Barnes Jr and Alice Busta Barnes.
He is preceded in death by both parents and brothers Jack and Bobby Barnes. He is survived by son Christopher Barnes (Ashlee) of Denton and daughter Carrie Barnes Tucker (Travis) of Owings Mills, sister Merry Webb (Vernon) of Cambridge, nephews Jason Weber (Michelle) of Richland Center WI, Jeremy Weber (Monica) of Cambridge, Zachary Webb (Lindsey) of Cambridge and several great nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After which he used the GI bill to attend college for many years. Finally, receiving his Engineering degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked as the city engineer for Ocean City, Md. He retired from the state of Maryland as city engineer for Annapolis. This was a great accomplishment for Allen as he overcame many earlier challenges to realize these achievements. As a young man he enjoyed the muscle cars of his time. His favorite was his white GTO. His later years were spent quietly in his family home where he supported the care of his mother. In his final years he battled the effects of Parkinson’s disease. His death was sudden, which was a gift and a blessing.
He will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Beulah Md. His service will be private. Any condolences may be offered to the Parkinson’s Research Foundation.
