Vernon F. McNamara

Vernon F. “Jump Pie” McNamara, of Cambridge passed away on September 18th, 2015 at Grace Manor in Port Orange, Florida. Born in Cambridge on July 9, 1926 Vernon was a son of the late Ivy and Nora Christopher McNamara.

Vernon served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Minneapolis as a 40mm Gunner in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war he joined his father as a waterman crabbing, fishing and dredging oysters aboard the Edna Lockwood. Vernon later built and operated a small marina and railway in the Neck District.

On December 20, 1950, he married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Marshall who passed away on January 10, 2011. Both were members of Spedden United Methodist Church in the Neck District. Vernon enjoyed woodworking, travel, family and friends.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post 91, Post 7460 VFW and an active member of the Neck District VFC in his younger years.

He is survived by his son Joseph McNamara and wife Beth of Port Orange, FL, two grandchildren Benjamin and Ian McNamara, nieces Joan Wilson of Leesburg, Florida and Cathy Bisker of Linkwood, Maryland. Besides his spouse and parents, Mr. McNamara is preceded in death by a sister Leona and a brother Ivy McNamara.

Pallbearers will be Robert Hurley, Jr., Danny Hurley, William Marshall, Danny Windsor, Roy Bradshaw and Randall Bradshaw.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8.
