Virgel B. Reed

Virgel B. Reed, 80 of Linkwood, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Dorchester General Hospital. She was born at Grand Forks, North Dakota on January 10, 1930, and was a daughter of the late William August and Mary Ellan Hogan Bruning.

She attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from High school in 1948. On July 20, 1950 she was married to Wallace W. Reed. Since November of 1976 Mr. & Mrs. Reed have made their home in Linkwood. Mrs. Reed had worked at Lednum's Jewelers in Cambridge for over 30 years.. She was a communicant of St. Mary Refuge of Sinner's Catholic Church in Cambridge. Mrs. Reed was an avid reader. She had been in failing health for the past two months, and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital on Friday evening where she passed away on Saturday.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years Wallace W. Reed of Linkwood, two daughters Deborah Lynn McKay and her husband Darrel McKay of Hannibal, MO, and Jodie Mitchell and her husband Terry Mitchell of Cordova, one son Wallace W. Reed II and his wife Terri Reed of Easton, three grandsons Phillip Edward Mitchell, Jeffrey Alan Mitchell and Kyle William Reed, one great granddaughter Jayden Nicole Mitchell, one sister Elaine Wainio of Minneapolis, MN, one brother Richard Bruning of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Jack Bruning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church on Glasgow Street in Cambridge with the Rev. William Lawler officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip E. Mitchell, Jeffrey A. Mitchell, Kyle W. Reed, Jimmy Mitchell, Terry Mitchell and Roger Erickson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
