Virginia C. LeCompte, 85, of Hurlock passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at her son’s home in Fishing Creek, Hoopers Island, MD. She was born in Fishing Creek on December 16, 1931 and was a daughter of William Mathew Cannon and Mabel Hart Cannon.

She graduated from Hoopers Island High School as Valedictorian in 1948. She attended Easton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in September 1951 and subsequently received her accreditation as a Registered Nurse. In 1952, she attended a four month post graduate course in Obstetrics at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, NJ. She returned to Easton and worked as an RN at the hospital until June 1953.

She is survived by her husband S Walter LeCompte, Jr. of Hurlock, daughter, Elise V. LeCompte of Gainesville, FL, son Samuel W. LeCompte, III and wife Miranda of Fishing Creek, grandsons Samuel W. LeCompte, IV and wife Jessica, Matthew A. LeCompte and wife Chelcie, and Logan R. LeCompte and companion Brooke Davidson, great grandsons Samuel W. LeCompte V, Jack R. LeCompte, Wesley D. LeCompte, and Chase R. LeCompte. She is survived by sisters Isabelle Kato and Joan Borgese and preceded in death by brother Kenneth Cannon.

She married S. Walter LeCompte, Jr. at Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, her home church on Hoopers Island, on June 6, 1953. She worked as an RN in Somerville, NJ, as Director of Obstetrics at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, MD and worked and taught at Charleston General Hospital, Charleston, WV. After moving to Wilmington, DE she retired from nursing to raise her family and engage in active volunteer service in her church and community center.

When her husband retired and they returned “Home” to Dorchester County, she maintained a very active role in her home Hosier Church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, Fishing Creek with Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM.

The family would like to thank the staffs of the ICU and Palliative Care Unit at University of MD Medical Center at Easton for their skilled and compassionate care.
