Virginia Lee Willey Marshall, 91, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011. She had celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday among family and friends at Chesapeake Woods Center where she was a patient, and passed peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning. She was the daughter of the late Perry and Anna Evans Willey.
Mrs. Marshall graduated from Cambridge High School in 1936. On November 2, 1940 she married J. Meredith Marshall, her childhood sweetheart. He passed away on February 1, 1989. Before their children were born, she was a bookkeeper for Phillips Packing Company in the main office.
"Miss Ginny" as she was affectionately called, loved the Lord, and in her declining years on this earth, she longed for her heavenly home. All who were privileged to know "Miss Ginny" loved her and couldn't help but be influenced by this woman of faith. Her Christian testimony will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. "Miss Ginny" enjoyed family, music and her church. Her most fulfilling moments were spent as a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be remembered also for her sharp wit, humbleness, and sweet, sweet spirit.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cambridge, where she played the piano and organ for 70+ years. She also had served as missions leader, Sunday School teacher and music director. She was a gifted musician and shared her musical talents willingly, not for the plaudits of men, but only to bring glory to God, the Giver of the gift. At the time of her passing, she attended Faith Baptist Fellowship where she played special music.
She is survived by a son James M. Marshall, Jr. (Lt.Col.U.S. Marine Corps retired) of Fredericksburg VA, three daughters: Lynne Marshall, Elaine Robbins and husband Sonny of Cambridge, and Anne Councell and husband Petey of Cordova; six grandchildren: Brian Robbins, Jason Robbins, James M. Marshall III and wife Renee, Jeffrey Marshall and wife Amy, Lindsey Councell and Meredith Councell; and two great-grandchildren: Maddox Ewing and Gracie Marshall; a sister-in-law Betty Marshall of Cambridge, and nieces Jeannie Groves and Janice Elliott.
