Virginia B. Wheatley, 86, of Crapo passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at her son's home in Cambridge. She was born in Crapo on December 11, 1923 and was a daughter of the late William H. and Grace Wingate Bradford.


Mrs. Wheatley attended schools in Crapo. On December 24, 1941 she married George W. Wheatley, Sr. He passed away on January 15, 2009. She worked as a cafeteria manager at Crapo and South Dorchester K-8 schools for 30 years. She had also worked at Phillips Packing Company and picked crabs for I.F. Cannon and Son. She enjoyed canning, cooking and gardening. Mrs. Wheatley was a member of Lakes and Straits Volunteer Fire Company and Ebenezer United Methodist Church.


She is survived by her son George W. Wheatley, Jr. and wife Joyce of Cambridge, two grandchildren NREMT-P Scott Wheatley of Hurlock and Cathi Jo Wheatley of Cambridge, great granddaughter Marie Elizabeth Wilson of Easton, a brother Franklin Bradford of Cambridge and a sister Grace Hall of Boothwin, PA and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Wheatley is preceded in death by a brother Brady H. Bradford and two sisters Lucille Burton and Francis Adams.


Pallbearers will be Edward Bradford, Tommy Shaw, Brady Bradford, Jr., James Adams, Todd Adams, Gary Hickman and Randy Lewis.


A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with her son Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Jubilee Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613.
