Virginia "Ginny" Parker (Parker) Porter

Virginia Parker “Ginny” Porter, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Cambridge on February 7, 1931 and was a daughter of the late Luke R. and Madeline Aaron Parker.

Mrs. Porter attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1948. She then attended Salisbury State College, where she earned a B.S. Degree in education. On December 28, 1949, she married William Otto Porter, who passed away on March 8, 2003. Mrs. Porter taught at Academy School, and was later vice principal at Hurlock Primary School and later principal at the Hudson School. She also taught art at Vienna Elementary School and did private tutoring at home. Mrs. Porter was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, D.A.R. and the Cambridge Country Club.

She is survived by two daughters Billie Sue Norton and her husband Judge John L. Norton III of Cambridge and JoAnn P. Harrington and husband William E. Harrington of Cambridge, two granddaughters Amanda Leigh Norton of Richmond, VA and Amy Lauren Bobitka and husband Brian of Silver Spring, MD, a great granddaughter Aria Rayne Bobitka of Silver Spring, MD, a sister Fayre Ringler of Lakeland, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Audrey Edgar and Alva P. Booze.

All services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 909 Progress Circle, Ste. 400, Salisbury, MD 21804. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
