Vivian E. Mitchell

Vivian E. Mitchell, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at her home. She was born in Hoopers Island on January 24, 1933 and was a daughter of the late William “Willie” McGlaughlin and Helen Creighton McGlaughlin.

Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Hoopers Island High School. On May 29, 1953 she married Roland Leonard Mitchell who passed away on April 20, 2008. She worked at Western Publishing, Dorchester County Health Department and later for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed reading, shopping, watching birds and just having a great time. She was a member of Red Hat Society.

She is survived by two daughters Jean M. Fischer of Reston, VA and Gale M. Collins of Florida, a son Alex L. Mitchell of Charlevoix, MI, and a stepson Alan L. Mitchell and wife Lynn of East New Market, two grandchildren Tiffany Collins and Dennis Mitchell, two sisters and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived her special live in caregivers Joe, Cassie and Sadie Hibble. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Mitchell is preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Joe Hibble, Jeff Robinson, Ralph Whitten, Herbie Dodson, Chuck Robinson, and Mark Robbins.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 11:30 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
