W. Hamilton Gore

October 26, 1920 — February 8, 2010

W. Hamilton Gore, 89 of Cambridge, passed away at the Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Salisbury on Monday, February 8, 2010. He was born in Cambridge on October 26, 1920, and was the son of the late William M. H. and Virginia Jones Gore.

He attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937. Ham served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and served in the 99th Infantry Division in the European Theater, and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He first worked at Skinner's Wholesale in Cambridge, and later worked at B.J. Linthicum & Sons in Cambridge in the parts department for five years. On January 26, 1944 he was married to the former Lillian Sellers. She passed away on August 11, 2007. Ham later worked at Sears in Cambridge and later in Salisbury for 31 years as a salesman until he retired in 1983. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge, and had been a member of the Usher's Union for over 50 years, and was a member of the Baraca Class. He had also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Sunday School for 35 years. Ham was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 Veterans of Foreign Wars and AARP. For some years he and his wife had been active with the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary, and operating the Hospitality Shop and also enjoyed traveling together. He had been a resident at the Salisbury Rehabilitation and Nursing Center since November of 2008 when he passed away on Monday evening

Survivors include a nephew Gene A. Theroux of Salisbury and two nieces Barbara Carter of Charleston, S.C. and Margaret Barron of Knoxville, TN. He was preceded in death by three sisters Hannah G. Theroux, Elsie G. Hoover and Eleanor G. Handy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Jim Carpenter, Robert W. Parks, Gene A. Theroux and the members of the Usher's Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.
