Wallace W. "Wally" Reed, 88, of Cordova passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He was born in Trippe, South Dakota on March 5, 1924 and was the son of the late Roy and Tillie Deurmeier Reed.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until 1946. On July 20, 1950 he married the former Virgel Bruning, who passed away on July 17, 2010. Mr. Reed worked for Litho Printing and retired as a supervisor. He enjoyed reading, sports, especially watching the Nationals and the Orioles, was an avid golfer and a dedicated marine. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91 and the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
Mr. Reed is survived by two daughters Deborah Lynn McKay and husband Darrel of Hannibal, MO and Jodie Mitchell and husband Terry of Cordova, a son Wallace W. Reed II and wife Terri of Easton, four grandsons Phillip Edward Mitchell and his wife Denise, Jeffrey Alan Mitchell, Kyle William Reed and Sean McKay and his wife Deidra, two great granddaughters Jayden and Jenna Mitchell, two great grandsons Landon and Lanxton McKay and two sisters Lucille Zanstra of Nebraska and Goldie Frank of Iowa.
Pallbearers will be Wallace W. Reed II, Terry Mitchell, Darrel McKay, Phillip Mitchell, Jeffrey Mitchell and Kyle Reed.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Publications Activity (23) Federal Bldg., 31 Hopkins Plaza, Baltimore, MD 21201, or the Cambridge American Legion Post 91, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
