Walter S. "Dickie" Dickerson

Walter S. "Dickie" Dickerson, 75, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born in Cambridge on August 27, 1936 and was a son of the late John T. and Evelyn Parks Dickerson.

Mr. Dickerson graduated from Cambridge High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer and was stationed at Vint Hill Farms in Warrington, VA. He worked for Allen Tyler and Son and later was a self employed brick layer and was owner/operator of Whispers Restaurant. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by six children Betty Edgar of Cambridge, Donna Dickerson of Cambridge and Donald Dickerson of Cambridge, Pennie Jones of Salisbury, Faith Jarboe of Salisbury and Dawn Bachelder, eight grandchildren Ashley Jones, Amy Searcey, Katie Era, MacKenzie Dickerson, Cole Dickerson, Jonathon Towers, Nikki Veins and Justin Jarboe, eight great grandchildren, a brother Clement Dickerson of Kansas and a sister Dorothy Parks of Woolford and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Dickerson is preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Pallbearers will be Jason Dickerson, Brian Holiday, Frankie Whirley, John Whirley, Mike Era, David Parker, Mike Jones and Gillis Todd.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 12:30 at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Dave Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Kitty City Rescue, P.O. Box 1259, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to American Lung Association of Maryland, 209 E. Market Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.
