William H. "Bill" Elliott, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on September 2, 1928 to the late Milford W. and Mary Burton Elliott.
Mr. Elliott played basketball for and graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1945. At a young age he held fishing parties and built boats with his father and brothers. He served in the National Guard Company K-115. On June 21, 1951, he married the former Margaret A. "Peggy" Hurley, who passed away on September 27, 2014. Mr. Elliott was a waterman his entire working career. He was a member of Cambridge Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed working, wood crafting, reading and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a daughter Mary Ann Tyler of Cambridge, a son Keith Elliott and wife Liz of Cambridge, four grandchildren Renee Tyler of Cambridge, Jessica Adkins and husband Brad of Church Creek, Julie Elliott of Cambridge, Phillip Elliott and companion Janna Jones of Cambridge, two great grandchildren Preston and Paxton Adkins of Church Creek, one brother A. Davis Elliott and wife Beverly of Cambridge, two sisters Laura Schultz of Cambridge and Kay Greig of Milton, DE, a sister in law Emma Elliott and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Elliott is preceded in death by a brother Milford W. Elliott, Jr., a son in law Charles Tyler and a grandson Charles Tyler, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Elliott, Brad Adkins, Tuck Hales, Scott Todd, Bill Elliott, and Duane Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Russum, Roland Webster, Reese Hurley and William Smith.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cambridge Wesleyan Church with Pastor Jack Diehl officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Cambridge Wesleyan Church, c/o Paulette Meekins, 1108 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
