William Frank Lankford (U.S. Marine Corps retired) 76, of Punta Gorda, FL and Cambridge, MD born April 19, 1936 passed away of natural causes on June 16, 2012 at his home in Cambridge, MD. He was the son of the late Minibel and Walter Lankford of Vienna, MD. He was predeceased by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Lankford.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1971 and retired as a First Sergeant. He was a Drill Instructor in Parris Island and served in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart.
After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he ran a hunting and guide service at Higgins Mill Pond and was the Owner/Operator of Skipjack Cleaners in Cambridge, MD. He was a former member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and a current member of the Cambridge Lodge #1272 B.P.O.E. Elks, American Legion Post 91, Choptank Memorial Post 7460, V.F.W. and Friendship United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Eva Rosalie Lankford (formerly Fowler) and his brother Charlie Marshall of Cambridge, MD. He is also survived by his children, Lloyd Thomas Williams of Pompano Beach, FL; William P. Windsor and his fiancAC.e Kimberly of Columbia, SC; Bobbi Williams of Vienna, MD; Kevin F. McCray of Australia and his wife, Joanne; Pixie Windsor of Washington, DC; Karen Rounsley and her husband Matthew of Salisbury, MD and Wendy Windsor Ashburn of LaPlata, MD. His surviving step-children include Reese A. Nank of Scottsdale, AZ and Ryan P. Fowler and Ray B. Fowler of Cambridge.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Tracy Luchtenberg, Megan McGlothlin, Emily Windsor, Meredith Rounsley, Rachael Rounsley, Palmer Windsor, Karmin Williams, Grace and Caroline Ashburn and special niece Deidre Gerlach of Coral Springs, FL.
Pallbearers will be Mark Eberspacher, Craig Linthicum, Donnie Creighton, Harold Robinson, Sidney Keyes and Wylie Gray.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Donations in remembrance of Frank Lankford can be made to the Semper Fi Foundation, 145 E. Prospect Ave., Suite 200, Danville, CA 94526, a non-profit to aid critically injured Marine Corps veterans and their families.
