William E. Short, Sr., 80, of Salem passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Secretary on the Baker Farm on January 31, 1935 and was a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Wilkerson Short.
Mr. Short attended schools in Vienna and has lived in Salem for over 50 years. He served in the Army National Guard. On October 1, 1954, he married the former June Mowbray. Mr. Short worked for the Dorchester County Roads Board for 33 years. During that time, he enjoyed working for various farmers. Mr. Short also had worked with Skeeter Johnson. He was member of Linkwood Salem Volunteer Fire Company and Chateau Church, where he served has an usher.
He is survived by his wife June Short of Salem, a son William E. "Billy" Short, Jr. and wife Dianna of Salem, two grandchildren Jessica Short and William E. "Wes" Short III both of Salem, two sisters Barbara Hurley of Salem and Virginia Tolley and husband David of East New Market, two brothers George Short of Cambridge and Harry Short of Secretary and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Short is preceded in death by a brother Roger Short, Sr., four sisters Anna Short, Carolyn Short, Mary Wiggins and Nora Myers, two brothers in law Lawrence Knauer and Edward Hurley and a sister in law Lorraine Short.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Larry Wroten officiating.
