William Samuel Smith

William S. Smith, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Chesapeake Woods Center. He was born in Cambridge on January 7, 1931 and was a son of the late Daniel Harford Smith and Jane Kirby Smith.

Mr. Smith graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during the Korean War. He married the former Nellie Lowe, who passed away on October 19, 2010. He worked for Pritchett and Robbins for 19 years, Wise Oil and Fuel for 25 years and 6 years with Dorchester Service Association. Mr. Smith was a life time member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, and a past member of the American Legion Post 91.

He is survived by two step daughters Patti Van Vorst of Cambridge and Judy Tieder of Cambridge, two stepsons Stevie Willey of Cambridge and Vernon Lowe of Cambridge. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by a sister Frances J. Thomas, three brothers D. Harford Smith, Jr., Kirby Smith and James Leland Smith. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by four stepsons Wallace Willey, Daniel Willey, Larry Willey and Dougie Willey.

Pallbearers will be Doug Cox, Keith Humphrey, Shawn Holland, Mark Lowe, Paul Willey and Jerome Bennett.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2 pm at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Jayson Bleyer officiating. Interment will follow at Bucktown Churchyard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 91, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613.
