William L. Stephens

William L. Stephens, 80, of East New Market passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was born in Cambridge on August 5, 1932 and was a son of the late Harry Elwood Stephens, Sr. and Albina Mulligan Price Stephens.

Mr. Stephens attended and graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from February 18, 1952 and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1955 at the rank of Corporal. On June 2, 1957, he married the former Clara Mae Marshall. Mr. Stephens was employed as a loan officer for several banks in Cambridge and also in Millsboro, DE. After retirement, he was employed by Harrington Insurance photographing properties. He was a member of the American Legion Post #91, Trinity United Methodist Church in East New Market and more recently he was attending St. Stephen's Church in East New Market.

He is survived by his wife Clara Mae Stephens of East New Market, a son Glenn Stephens and wife Tina of East New Market, a daughter Cheryl Adams and husband Michael of East New Market, a granddaughter Rebecca Adams of Cambridge, a sister in law Diane White and husband Stephen of Wenona, MD and several nieces and extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Mr. Stephens is preceded in death by two brothers Walter H. Stephens and Harry Elwood Stephens, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at The Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Stephen's Church, 1703 Perseus Rd., Church Creek, MD 21622 or to Alzheimers Association, 909 Progress Circle Suite 400, Salisbury, MD 21804. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
