William Willis Tubman Sr, 88 of Cambridge, passed away at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury on Saturday, July 23, 2011, and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He was born in Cambridge on 15th of July 1923 and lived in the family home known as Ayershire with his parents, the late Granville Tubman, Sr. and Naomi Willis Tubman and his siblings, the late, Granville Jr., Louise, and Richard.
After graduation from Cambridge High School in 1941 he married Olga Jones of Wingate, and joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. After the war he returned to Cambridge and joined in the family jewelry business, G. L. Tubman and Son's. He took great pride in serving his customers. He enjoyed golf, especially with fellow golfers, Sam, Irv and Bill. Their greatest memory and challenge was on Pebble Beach. He also enjoyed boating with fond memories on his houseboat, "Playgirl" with family and friends and 1st mate Bud. Bill devoted his life to his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a father in law. His wife Olga who passed in May of 2008 preceded him in death. He was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church where he helped serve on soup day every month for many years. He was a former member of the Cambridge Country Club and Cambridge Yacht Club, and the Edlon Super Five.
He leaves his, son Dr. William W. Tubman, Jr. and his wife Anna Ruth of Chestertown; daughter Tracey Kim Gynan of Virginia Beach, VA, three grandchildren Kelly Chubet and her husband Charlie of New York, Brittany and Jacob Gynan both of Virginia Beach, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 26th at 11:00 am at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Michael D. Reddig officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers are Bryan Pritchett, William C. Press, Richard Meekins, Richard Blake, Larry Warner and Bruce Willey. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Wright, Earl Brannock, Judd Vickers, Greg Bartoo and Terry Tubman.
